About the Institute of Valuers of Sri Lanka (IVSL)

The Institute of Valuers of Sri Lanka (IVSL) was established under the Institute of Valuers of Sri Lanka Law No. 33 of 1975, with subsequent amendments by Act No. 09 of 2019. IVSL serves as the governing body for the valuation profession in Sri Lanka, upholding standards of professional practice, ethics, and public trust.

The vision for the Institute originated from the 1971 Budget Speech by Hon. Dr. N. M. Perera, who recognized the critical role of valuers in economic development, land management, and revenue generation. Following this, a draft bill was developed and, despite political delays, the law was enacted in 1975 and came into force in January 1977.

Since its inception, IVSL has played a pivotal role in regulating and advancing the valuation profession in the country. The first Council was appointed in 1980, laying the foundation for institutional governance. The 2019 amendment further strengthened the Institute ability to align with evolving local and international professional standards.
